The Walking Dead | S7 E5

Negan is now well established and is a force to be reckoned with, but as fans tune out of the Walking Dead, will this week give a reason to  tune in?  ….. Join Film and TV Nerd to find out!

The Walking Dead Go Getters – This season began with such a bang that its hard to expect the show to keep up with the intensity, so it was just a matter of time before we were given a really slow episode. In this week’s episode the show continues its streak of separating the story of a character or small group from the rest of the universe and this week we are finally taken to the Hilltop to see what has become of Maggie and Sasha.

Review and recap The Walking Dead Go Getters

Maggie is treated by a doctor and told that because her pregnancy is facing complications, she should remain at the Hilltop. Jesus seems to have taken a liking to both Sasha and Maggie but the Hilltop leader Gregory feels differently. After Sasha and Maggie visit the grave-sites and leave gifts for their late loves, Gregory is upset they are breaking from the Hilltop tradition of burying bodies. On the other side of town, Rick leaves for a scavenger mission for the Saviors but both Carl and Michonne refuse to join him. It’s clear that they don’t agree in Rick’s belief that they appeasing the Saviors is their only hope. Enid decides to visit the Hilltop to join Maggie, but Carl can’t help to leave her by-herself so he decides to follow and eventually comes to help her when she gets cornered by a walker.

The Walking Dead Go Getters

At the Hilltop, Jesus and Gregory have a dispute over Sasha and Maggie being there. Jesus is adamant that they now belong there but Gregory sees them both as a threat since the Saviors will retaliate against the community if there are discovered. Later that night Sasha and Maggie are awoken by music being blared from a car speaker. When they look out their window, they see that the gate has been opened and being overrun with walkers. Sasha and Maggie quickly spring in to action to quell the invasion and Jesus later joins them to help clear the Hilltop of all the walkers.

The following morning, the Saviors arrive at the fence with four trucks full of soldiers lead by Simon. Simon speaks privately with Gregory and reveals that its was them that let the walkers in the previous evening. According to Simon he also planned on disposing of the walkers as a sort of reminder who is in charge, and who it is that is providing safety for the Hilltop. Simon doesn’t appear to be aware that the Hilltop is working with people from Alexandria, but he does tell Gregory that they have been “taken out of the playing field.” Simon seems to take pleasure in subjugating Gregory and ask him if there is anything he wants to tell him. At that moment, Gregory reveals his true colors by bringing Simon to the closet that Sasha and Maggie are hiding in but they aren’t there. Instead a few boxes of whiskey is in the closet so Gregory pretends that is what he intended to show him.

The Walking Dead Go Getters

Jesus hid Sasha and Maggie in a room upstairs and when Gregory finds them, Maggie punches him in the face and tells him that she isn’t going anywhere. Gregory tries to make the case that by giving the Saviors what they need, they benefit from it, but to Maggie, Sasha, and Jesus they clearly don’t agree. Carl and Enid have an enjoyable walk through the Apocalypse over to the Hilltop and even have their first kiss. However when Enid gets there, Carl is missing. Maggie, Sasha, and Enid have a nice dinner together but what they don’t know is that moments earlier Jesus was asked by Sasha to find out where Negan lives. Jesus agrees to find out by hopping on one of the Saviors trucks after it departs the Hilltop.

In the final scene Jesus is shown hopping into the last truck of the convoy and emptying the bottles of whiskey that were taken earlier. To his surprise, also hiding in the truck is Carl who seemingly has plans of his own to extract revenge.
