Better Call Saul is back! ……. in February, but Netflix have kindly released a sneak peak for us all to over analyse for the next few months. So what can we expect from the smooth talking lawyer currently known as Jimmy McGill as he transforms into the best lawyer in all of New Mexico?
looking back at the first season, this was not what Breaking Bad fans may have been expecting at all. The comparison between the two shows is that similar to how Cheers was to Frasier, Breaking Bad was an object of blunt force, where as Better caul Saul is an object of finesse, Breaking Bad a sledge hammer, Better call Saul a violin.
In the First season we are treated to a cameo from Tuco and the back story of Mike as he heads on his path that will ultimately lead him to Gus (We can only hope he makes a return) but that is where the Breaking bad element ends.
As we have now come to learn about McGill, he was once known as “slippin Jimmy” but after one stint too many in prison, he follows in his brothers footsteps and becomes a lawyer, now attempting to stay on the straight and narrow, McGill has finally found his calling in life.
But luck is rarely on his side we learn that his own brother conspires against him, teaching McGill that he cant count on anyone but himself as he speeds off into the distance to end the first season.
The trailer (See below) is careful to give not to give to much away, but as the words of others still echo within McGills head, this may be the transformation into the classic Saul Goodman.
The first season was extremely well written, smart, witty, funny and very compelling and hopefully season two will keep that trend. Those craving cameos shouldn’t expect too much here and honestly that’s ok, The show needs to have its own identity rather then rely on that of an others.
I for one look forward to the return of Saul, the direction he takes and choices that get him there.
What are your thoughts on the first season and are you looking forward to the second?
